Paula Williams is a San Francisco artist and interventionist. She is a devoted advocate of providing early intervention mental health treatment to address childhood trauma. Paula and her philanthropic organization, The Mortar Foundation, have been instrumental in the success of Access Institute’s In-School Mental Health program. She has helped pioneer and expand Access Institute’s integrative model of providing free clinical psychology services to children and their families at six public elementary schools. Paula’s support has enabled Access Institute to improve the mental health and well-being of at-risk children, to give critical support to families and school staff, and to improve classroom learning environments.
The expansive reach of Paula’s Mortar Foundation is also making a tremendous impact on local organizations that address recovery and substance abuse, sex trafficking, and homelessness.
Paula also is the creator of SHAMEBOOTH, a powerful project-turned-movement that illuminates people’s stories without shame or judgement, and embraces the participants with empathy. She has dedicated her life to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness, addiction, and trauma.
Access Institute is an independent, grass-roots organization that provides high-quality mental health services to those with the greatest need and least access. Every year, Access Institute provides over 12,000 hours of mental health services to more than 600 people.
